India Hosts Inaugural India-Arab Universities’ Presidents’ Conference to Boost Academic Collaboration

The 1st India-Arab Universities’ Presidents’ Conference was successfully held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi, from February 5–6, 2025, marking a significant milestone in fostering higher education and research collaboration between India and the Arab world.

Organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in association with the University Grants Commission (UGC) as the knowledge partner and the League of Arab States (LAS) as the co-organizer, the conference was part of the education vertical under the Executive Program for implementing the India-LAS Memorandum of Cooperation.

High-Level Participation and Key Addresses

The event was inaugurated by Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs, on February 5, 2025, who delivered the keynote address. Representing the Arab world, Mr. Imran Muhamed Al-Qeeb, Minister of Education of Libya, led the delegation and delivered a special address.

The opening session featured welcome remarks by Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman, UGC, followed by addresses from Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, and Mr. Farraj Aljmi, Director of Education and Scientific Research at LAS.

Key Discussion Areas: Strengthening Academic Ties

The conference featured four focused sessions aimed at enhancing educational collaboration between India and Arab nations, including:

  • Higher Education and Skill Development Cooperation for mutual development and prosperity.
  • Exploring New Approaches in Education through digital platforms and technological advancements.
  • Challenges and Opportunities in Mutual Recognition of Degrees for academic mobility.
  • Scientific Research and Innovation in cutting-edge fields like AI, Quantum Computing, and Biotechnology.

Additionally, breakout sessions among university representatives provided a platform to explore institutional partnerships and joint initiatives.

Promoting Faculty & Student Exchange

On February 6, 2025, discussions focused on developing a structured framework for faculty and student exchange programs, along with collaboration in curriculum development. The closing ceremony was chaired by the UGC Secretary, who delivered the valedictory address, emphasizing the long-term vision for strengthening academic cooperation.

The India-Arab Universities’ Presidents’ Conference successfully facilitated meaningful academic engagement between Indian and Arab institutions, laying the groundwork for:
