The Government of India has announced the appointment of Shri Anil Nautiyal as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of South Sudan. Currently serving as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Shri Nautiyal brings extensive diplomatic experience and expertise in international relations to his new role.
Diplomatic Experience and Key Responsibilities
A 2004 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Shri Nautiyal has held various significant positions in India’s diplomatic missions and within the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). His appointment to South Sudan is expected to further enhance bilateral relations, trade, development cooperation, and capacity-building initiatives between the two nations.

Shri Nautiyal’s tenure is expected to strengthen India-South Sudan diplomatic ties, fostering economic collaboration, cultural exchanges, and humanitarian assistance programs.
Strategic India-South Sudan Relations
India and South Sudan share strong diplomatic ties, with India actively supporting the country’s peace and development efforts. Indian companies have a growing presence in South Sudan’s energy and infrastructure sectors, and India has contributed significantly to United Nations peacekeeping operations in the region.
Shri Nautiyal is expected to assume his new responsibilities in the coming weeks, where he will work towards deepening bilateral engagement, trade partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives in South Sudan. His leadership will be instrumental in expanding diplomatic outreach, strengthening people-to-people connections, and promoting India’s developmental assistance programs in the African nation.
