US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Stuart Young in Kingston, Jamaica on March 26, 2025. The two leaders discussed ways to promote energy security, deepen their security partnership, and enhance coordination on the deportation of illegal aliens.
Secretary Rubio thanked Prime Minister Young for Trinidad and Tobago’s cooperation in addressing these critical issues, as well as the country's support in designating the notorious Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). The US Secretary also encouraged Prime Minister Young to join other Caribbean democracies in limiting malign influence in the region.
The meeting highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries and underscored the importance of cooperation on regional security concerns. By working together, the US and Trinidad and Tobago can enhance their shared interests and promote a more stable and secure future for the Caribbean region.
