Secretary Rubio Commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has issued a statement marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day, an observance designated by the United Nations to honor the memory of the six million Jews and millions of others who perished during the Holocaust. The observance, held annually on January 27, commemorates the 1945 liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and death camp.

In his statement, Secretary Rubio solemnly reflected on the atrocities of the Holocaust, expressing deep reverence for the lives lost and the survivors who continue to share their harrowing stories. “We remember the six million Jews systematically murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators, as well as the countless others who fell victim to this brutal regime,” Rubio said. “We honor the survivors, thank the liberators, and reaffirm our shared commitment to upholding human freedom and justice.”

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the Holocaust, a poignant milestone that underscores the urgency of preserving the memories of those who lived through these dark chapters in history. Secretary Rubio noted that this year may be one of the last in which Holocaust survivors can share their personal testimonies of the horrors they witnessed.

“As Secretary of State, I remain steadfast in my commitment to support Holocaust survivors and their families, just as I did during my time in the United States Senate,” he added. “It is our responsibility to ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust are passed down to future generations, so that such atrocities are never repeated.”

International Holocaust Remembrance Day serves as a solemn reminder of the need to fight hate, intolerance, and discrimination in all forms. Secretary Rubio’s statement reflects the United States’ enduring dedication to preserving the memory of the Holocaust and ensuring that the lessons of history guide the nation’s future efforts in promoting peace and justice worldwide.
