The United States has taken decisive action against Mexico-based leaders of Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), a notorious cartel responsible for trafficking illicit drugs into the country. The sanctions, announced today by the Department of State, target five individuals, including CJNG's leader "El Mencho" and a commander suspected in the murder of a Mexican influencer during a live stream.
The designation of Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, aka "El Mencho," as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) brings significant consequences. The Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs is offering a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to his arrest and/or conviction.
Audias Flores Silva, who controls clandestine laboratories used to produce methamphetamine and other illegal drugs trafficked to the United States, has also been designated as an SDGT. A reward of up to $5 million is being offered by the Narcotics Rewards Program for information leading to his capture or conviction.
Furthermore, a CJNG commander suspected in the recent murder of a Mexican influencer during a live stream has been designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. The United States is committed to disrupting the illicit manufacture and trafficking of fentanyl, a leading cause of death among people aged 18 to 49 in the country.
The sanctions follow the recent designation of CJNG as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and SDGT. This action is being taken pursuant to Executive Order 14059 and 13224, as amended. The United States will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt illicit activities and bring those responsible for violent crimes to justice.
The Department of State urges all parties involved in the production, trafficking, or distribution of illicit drugs to take immediate action to comply with these sanctions.
