The Russian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned a recent drone strike on a hospital in Alyoshki, Kherson Region, which resulted in the death of Deputy Chief Physician Vasily Borisov and severe injuries to Chief Physician Vladimir Kharlan.
According to a statement from Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, the attack was carried out using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that directly targeted the Chief Physician’s office. Zakharova attributed the strike to Ukrainian forces and criticized foreign military support provided to Kyiv, claiming it contributed to such assaults on civilian infrastructure.
“This brutal attack on medical personnel underscores the growing danger of targeting civilian professionals in the ongoing conflict,” Zakharova said, calling the incident a violation of international humanitarian norms. She urged global leaders and international organizations to denounce the attack and pressure Ukraine to adhere to principles protecting non-combatants in conflict zones.
Zakharova further emphasized that those responsible for this and other attacks would be held accountable under international law. She appealed to humanitarian bodies, including the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to investigate the incident thoroughly and take a firm stance against the targeting of medical personnel.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also called for a de-escalation of hostilities and stressed the importance of dialogue over continued violence. “The protection of civilian lives, especially those dedicated to saving others, should be a priority for all parties involved,” the statement concluded.
This latest incident has drawn attention to the ongoing risks faced by medical workers and the importance of safeguarding humanitarian spaces in conflict zones.
