To commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Greece, the Indonesian Ambassador to Greece, Bebeb A. K. Nugraha Djundjunan, presented a special piece of artwork to the President of Greece, H.E. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, on December 17, 2024. The painting, created by the talented young Indonesian artist Naufal Abshar, serves as a heartfelt token of goodwill and mutual respect between the two nations.
The handover ceremony took place at the Presidential Mansion in Athens, where Ambassador Nugraha Djundjunan conveyed that the artwork symbolizes the enduring friendship between Indonesia and Greece, grounded in shared democratic values and the importance of both nations as maritime countries. “This painting is an expression of the Indonesian people’s appreciation for Greece and its leadership, reflecting the principles of democracy, friendship, and humanity,” the Ambassador remarked during the ceremony.

He also recalled Greece’s pivotal role in recognizing Indonesia’s independence in 1949, noting that Greece was one of the first European nations to officially support Indonesia’s membership in the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The presentation of the artwork forms part of Indonesia’s broader art diplomacy initiative in Greece, which aims to promote the shared values and excellence of both countries through cultural exchange. The artist’s creative process for this painting took him on an immersive journey to Greece, where he spent over a month in September 2024 exploring Athens and other parts of the country. Drawing inspiration from Greece’s rich cultural history and democratic traditions, Naufal’s artwork became a celebration of the artistic dialogue between the two nations.
