Paraguay President to Pay State Visit to India in June 2025

The President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña Palacios, will embark on a state visit to India from June 2-4, 2025, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks Mr. Peña's first visit to India and only his second visit as President of Paraguay.

During his stay, Mr. Peña will engage in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi on June 2, 2025, to review the entire gamut of relations between the two countries. The Indian Prime Minister has planned a lunch in honour of the visiting dignitary, which is expected to be attended by esteemed guests including Rastrapatiji Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.

This state visit comes as part of efforts to strengthen ties between India and Paraguay, a relationship that has been cultivated since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1961. Both nations have developed cooperation in various sectors, including trade, agriculture, health, pharmaceuticals, and information technology. Paraguay is an important trading partner for India in the Latin American region, with Indian companies having a presence in both countries.

The visit will also provide an opportunity for Mr. Peña to meet state political leadership, business representatives, startups, innovators, and tech leaders in Mumbai. The Indian side has shared common views on various international issues such as UN reforms, climate change, renewable energy, and combating terrorism with Paraguay.

Mr. Peña's visit is expected to be a significant step forward in strengthening economic ties between the two nations, with several Indian companies already present in Paraguay and some Paraguayan companies operating through joint venture entities in India.
