The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India announced today that H.E. Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, will be visiting India from May 25-27, 2025. This is the third visit by Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel to India in 2025, following his previous visits in January and March.
The visit is aimed at strengthening the Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership between India and Maldives, a key maritime neighbour of India and an important partner in its 'Neighbourhood First' policy and Vision MAHASAGAR. The partnership, launched during the State Visit of President of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to India in October 2024, focuses on mutual and holistic advancement for security and growth across regions.
During his visit, Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel will lead Maldives at the 2nd India-Maldives High Level Core Group (HLCG) meeting on May 26, 2025, to oversee progress in the implementation of the Vision Document. This meeting will further enhance cooperation between the two countries in comprehensive economic and maritime security.
In addition, Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel will hold bilateral discussions with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar during his visit. These discussions are expected to strengthen India-Maldives relations and promote people-to-people exchanges.
The visit of H.E. Dr. Abdulla Khaleel underscores the importance of India-Maldives ties, which have been intensifying in recent years. The two countries have been exploring ways to expand their cooperation in areas such as trade, security, and maritime affairs.
