India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Pabitra Margherita, will embark on a diplomatic visit to the Philippines, Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) from January 14 to 21, 2025. The visit aims to bolster bilateral relations and deepen cooperation with the nations in line with India’s strategic outreach in the Indo-Pacific region.
Key Diplomatic Engagements in the Philippines
On January 14, Shri Margherita will begin his visit in the Philippines, where he will engage with top leadership to discuss avenues for expanding collaboration between the two nations. His visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and the Philippines, emphasizing the enduring partnership.
As part of his engagements, he will pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Centre for Peace Education, Miriam College, Manila, and interact with members of the Indian diaspora, acknowledging their contributions to bilateral cooperation.
Diplomatic Outreach in Palau
Continuing his tour, the Minister will visit Palau on January 16 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Surangel Whipps Jr. for his second term in office. During his visit, he will hold discussions with Palauan leaders to explore collaborative development projects supported by India. This visit reinforces the positive momentum generated during the 3rd Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) held in May 2023.
Historic Visit to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM)
On January 18, Shri Margherita will make a landmark visit to the Federated States of Micronesia, marking the first-ever ministerial visit from India to the nation. He will engage with FSM leadership to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and areas of mutual cooperation.

The Minister’s diplomatic tour is part of India’s broader “Act East” policy, emphasizing collaboration with nations in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The visit is expected to enhance India’s role as a partner in development, culture, and regional stability while fostering people-to-people connections across the Indo-Pacific.
