India Reaffirms Commitment to Securing India-Bangladesh Border, Summons Bangladesh Acting High Commissioner

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned Bangladesh’s Acting High Commissioner to India, Mr. Md. Nural Islam, to the South Block today, January 13, 2025, to address concerns regarding border security measures, particularly related to the ongoing construction of a fence at the India-Bangladesh border.

During the meeting, India reiterated its commitment to maintaining security at the border, underscoring that all protocols and agreements between the two governments, as well as between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), were being strictly adhered to.

India highlighted that the border security measures, including the construction of barbed wire fencing, border lighting, the installation of technical devices, and the establishment of cattle fences, are vital steps in addressing challenges such as cross-border criminal activities, smuggling, trafficking, and the movement of criminals.

Furthermore, India emphasized its expectation that all previous agreements between the two nations will be fully implemented, fostering a cooperative approach to combat cross-border crime effectively.

This development underscores India’s continued efforts to secure its borders and maintain strong bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh in ensuring peace and stability along their shared frontier.
