India and Mauritius Strengthen Bilateral Ties During Prime Minister’s Visit

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi recently paid a visit to the Republic of Mauritius, where he met with President H.E. Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool at the State House in Port Louis. The meeting marked an important step towards deepening the special and close bilateral ties between India and Mauritius.

The two leaders engaged in discussions on strengthening people-to-people linkages between their nations, recalling the shared history of the two countries. Prime Minister Modi expressed his honour in attending the National Day celebrations of Mauritius for the second time, highlighting the strong cultural exchange between the two nations. As a gesture of goodwill, he presented OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cards to President Gokhool and First Lady Vrinda Gokhool.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi also visited the Ayurveda Garden at the State House, which was established in collaboration with the Government of India. He acknowledged Mauritius' significance as a partner for India in promoting traditional medicine, including Ayurveda. The Prime Minister's visit demonstrated India's commitment to strengthening its ties with Mauritius in various sectors.

In recognition of his visit, President Gokhool hosted a State lunch in honour of Prime Minister Modi, providing an opportunity for the two leaders to engage in further discussions on mutual cooperation and understanding.

The visit highlights the progress made in India-Mauritius relations, which have seen significant growth in recent years. The bilateral relationship is built on the foundation of shared values, cultural exchanges, and economic cooperation.
