India and Mauritius Launch Joint Initiative to Strengthen Public Service Capacity Building

NEW DELHI, MARCH 12, 2025 – Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Mauritius H.E. Navinchandra Ramgoolam have jointly inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Reduit, Mauritius, marking a significant milestone in the two nations' development partnership.

The state-of-the-art institute, funded by a grant of US$ 4.74 million from a 2017 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to enhance the capacity building of Mauritian civil servants across various sectors. The institute will provide training and education programs for officials from ministries, public offices, parastatal bodies, and government enterprises, with a focus on research, governance studies, and institutional linkages with India.

The inauguration event also saw Prime Minister Modi interact with ITEC and GoI scholarship alumni who have previously undergone training and education in India. These capacity-building exchanges have strengthened the people-to-people ties between the two nations, reflecting India's commitment to fostering a stronger partnership.

This initiative aligns with India's commitment to the Global South and reinforces its role as a trusted partner in the Indian Ocean Region.
