India and China reaffirmed their commitment to stabilize and rebuild ties, focusing on people-centric engagements, during a meeting between Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China H.E. Mr. Sun Weidong in New Delhi yesterday.
The two sides reviewed the developments in India-China bilateral relations since their last meeting in Beijing on January 27, 2025, and agreed to prioritize people-centric engagements. This approach aims to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri appreciated China's cooperation in resuming the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra this year. He also expressed hope for progress on discussions related to hydrological data sharing and other areas of cooperation, which were previously agreed upon during an April 2025 meeting of the Expert Level Mechanism.
The two sides committed to expedite steps involved in resuming direct air services between India and China, with a goal to conclude an updated Air Services Agreement. They also agreed to take practical steps for visa facilitation and exchanges between media and think-tanks.
In addition, both sides positively assessed the activities planned under the 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China and agreed to facilitate these efforts.
Furthermore, they decided to hold functional dialogues in various areas, including economic and trade, to discuss and resolve specific issues of concern. These engagements aim to promote greater understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
