Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Neutrality, Prioritizes Regional Cooperation Amid Global Turbulence

In a statement released on 10 Mar 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) concluded its Annual Review Conference with a strong emphasis on Cambodia's independent foreign policy and proactive engagement in regional affairs. The conference, chaired by His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, marked a significant milestone in the Ministry's efforts to navigate the complexities of an increasingly interconnected world.

During the Review Conference, participants deliberated on key global and regional developments, including the transformative impact of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) on diplomacy and international relations. The conference also covered a wide range of issues related to geopolitical shifts, the need for enhanced multilateral cooperation, and the importance of addressing non-traditional threats within and beyond the region.

Addressing the closing of this Annual Conference, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, lauded the MFAIC's strong commitment to recalibrating Cambodia's diplomatic efforts and enhancing the capabilities of its foreign service. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the country's resilience in protecting core national interests, including independence and sovereignty, territorial integrity, peace and unity, as well as socio-economic progress.

Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister reaffirmed Cambodia's adherence to an independent foreign policy of permanent neutrality and non-alignment, based on the principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the Constitution of Cambodia, and core national interests. He highlighted six key priorities of Cambodia's foreign policy:

• Deepening bilateral ties: Fostering mutual trust and understanding with all nations, building a border of peace, friendship, and cooperation with immediate neighbors.
• Advancing multilateralism: Actively engaging in global governance, supporting United Nations peacekeeping operations, and reinforcing Cambodia's contributions to peace, stability, and sustainable development worldwide.
• Enhancing ASEAN centrality: Consolidating ASEAN unity and central role in maintaining regional stability, supporting peaceful conflict resolution, contributing to ASEAN's common interest and prosperity, and realizing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
• Promoting economic and cultural diplomacy: Expanding Cambodia's economic and cultural influence through strategic partnerships and cultural exchange programs.
• Strengthening public diplomacy efforts: Combatting misinformation, protecting and promoting Cambodia's good image and national interests on the world stage.
• Enhancing diplomatic strength: Implementing institutional reforms and improving operational efficiency and professionalism of Cambodia's foreign service.

The review conference also marked the launch of "The Taste of Angkor II", a new book on Cambodia's cuisine, following the success of its first edition. The event aimed to further showcase Cambodia's rich culinary traditions and culture, highlighting the country's unique heritage and cultural diversity.
