In a significant development, the seventh meeting of the India-Nepal Boundary Working Group (BWG) concluded in New Delhi on July 29, 2025, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. The two-day meet, attended by high-ranking officials from both nations, focused on progress made since the sixth BWG meeting held in August 2019.

The Indian delegation, led by Surveyor General of India Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, and the Nepali delegation, headed by Director General Prakash Joshi, engaged in extensive discussions to review the status of work undertaken since their last meeting. This exchange highlighted the shared commitment between India and Nepal to address outstanding boundary demarcation issues.

Two key agreements emerged from the BWG meeting: the adoption of “Updated Modalities for Inspection, Repair & Maintenance of Boundary Pillars along the India-Nepal Boundary,” which aims to expedite work on repairing and maintaining existing border pillars. Furthermore, both countries agreed to leverage cutting-edge technologies in boundary demarcation efforts, underscoring their shared desire to modernize their approach to cross-border cooperation.

The meeting also marked a significant milestone in the development of a comprehensive work plan for the next three years, as both nations committed to enhancing bilateral collaboration and strengthening institutional ties. Notably, the BWG agreed to schedule subsequent Survey Officials Committee (SOC) meetings on mutually agreed dates, ensuring regular communication channels between the two countries.

This recent meeting reinforces India’s long-standing commitment to fostering strong relationships with its regional neighbors. As the two nations continue to engage in constructive dialogue and cooperation on border issues, their collaboration has significant implications for promoting stability and peace in the region.

In conclusion, the seventh BWG meeting underscores the unwavering dedication of both India and Nepal to addressing outstanding boundary demarcation challenges through enhanced cooperation and collaborative efforts.
