Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken praised the leadership of Türkiye in facilitating the agreement and highlighted the importance of technical negotiations to ensure Ethiopia’s secure and sustainable access to the sea, benefiting both nations while respecting Somalia’s territorial integrity.
The United States emphasized the need for continued dialogue and cooperation between Ethiopia and Somalia to ensure stability and prosperity in the region. Blinken encouraged both nations to enhance their collaboration, particularly in the fight against the terrorist group al-Shabaab, and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to maintaining close bilateral relations with both Ethiopia and Somalia.
