The United States has issued a statement reaffirming its strong support for the Republic of Korea (ROK) and its democratic processes following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized the U.S. commitment to the U.S.-ROK alliance and to the rule of law in South Korea.
“The United States reiterates our support for the Republic of Korea, its citizens, and democratic processes,” Miller stated. “Our commitment to the U.S.-ROK Alliance is ironclad, and we stand by South Korea’s democratic institutions during this pivotal time.”
Miller’s statement comes after President Yoon faced impeachment proceedings, which have raised questions about the future of his leadership. Despite the political turmoil, the U.S. reaffirmed its longstanding partnership with South Korea, highlighting the strength of their alliance in recent years and their joint efforts to advance shared interests and values.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Republic of Korea, and we stand ready to work with Acting President Han Duck-soo and the ROK government to further progress in our mutual goals,” Miller added.
The U.S. government has consistently supported South Korea’s democracy and the peaceful resolution of its political challenges, while also recognizing the importance of the U.S.-ROK alliance in ensuring regional stability and addressing global issues.
