The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to building a new era of security cooperation with Mexico, according to a recent phone call between Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Mexican Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente.

Deputy Secretary Landau, who took office on March 25, spoke with his counterpart about ongoing efforts to secure the border, dismantle cartels, and stop the flow of illicit drugs, firearms, and illegal aliens. The U.S. government emphasized its determination to address these pressing issues and cooperate closely with Mexico to achieve shared goals.

Foreign Secretary de la Fuente highlighted Mexico's unwavering commitment to addressing security concerns and strengthening bilateral ties. Both officials discussed the importance of investing in commercial opportunities and promoting economic growth between the two nations.

Deputy Secretary Landau, who previously served as U.S. Ambassador to Mexico from 2019 to 2021, emphasized the significance of the special relationship between the United States and Mexico on the lives of individuals on both sides of the border. He expressed appreciation for Mexico's increased efforts to tackle illegal immigration, including receiving more deportation flights and repatriating a larger number of undocumented immigrants.

The conversation marked Landau's first official call since taking office, underscoring his commitment to reinvigorating U.S.-Mexico cooperation and promoting peace, security, and prosperity in the region.
