The United States has sanctioned a network of senior Hizballah officials and financial facilitators, targeting their ability to manage significant financial transfers from international donors. The individuals, located in Lebanon and Iran, collaborate with Hizballah leadership to fund the group's activities.
This action is part of President Trump's whole-of-government policy of maximum pressure against Iran and its terrorist proxies, including Hizballah. The policy aims to disrupt funding schemes for Hizballah's terrorist activities and Iran's destabilizing influence in the region.
The U.S. Department of State had previously designated Hizballah as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist and a Foreign Terrorist Organization under Executive Order 13224, which targets terrorist groups and their supporters. Today's action is being taken pursuant to this authority.
The designation aims to prevent Iran and Hizballah from exerting undue influence over Lebanon. The U.S. will continue to use its tools at disposal to disrupt funding schemes and prevent the group from posing a threat to the Lebanese people and the wider region.
