According to a readout from State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, Blinken and Lammy discussed the principles endorsed by the United States and its regional partners for Syria’s transition. These include the formation of a representative and accountable government chosen by the Syrian people. Secretary Blinken reiterated U.S. support for a Syrian-led process aimed at fostering stability and inclusivity.

The leaders also focused on Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need to finalize a ceasefire agreement. Blinken highlighted the importance of securing the immediate release of all hostages, which has been a key goal of U.S. diplomacy in the region.

In East Africa, the conversation turned to the UN Security Council’s efforts to finalize an African Union-led mission in Somalia. The mission aims to counter the al-Shabaab terrorist group and reinforce regional stability. Both Blinken and Lammy underscored the necessity of international cooperation to support this initiative.
