The United States condemns in the strongest terms the continued refusal by Nicolás Maduro and his representatives to grant safe passage to the individuals sheltered inside the Embassy of the Republic of Argentina in Caracas, Venezuela.
The United States takes very seriously the obligation under international law to respect the rights of diplomatic missions. The ongoing refusal to provide safe conduct not only violates international norms but also endangers the safety of the mission and the individuals seeking refuge.
We call on Nicolás Maduro and his representatives to immediately cease issuing politically motivated arrest warrants targeting members of the democratic opposition and to ensure the safe passage of those currently sheltered in the Argentine Embassy. Respect for international diplomatic principles is essential to the protection of human rights and the resolution of political disputes.
