Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell arrived in Houston, Texas, on December 17, 2024, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen space cooperation between the United States and India. His visit comes as both nations work together on expanding their collaboration in space exploration, including a joint human spaceflight mission to the International Space Station (ISS) scheduled for next year.
During his visit, Campbell will be joined by Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer and Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra. They will meet with astronauts from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) who are currently undergoing training at NASA’s Johnson Space Center for the upcoming ISS mission.
The delegation will also engage with senior representatives from the space industry to explore further opportunities for collaboration between the U.S. and India, particularly in the burgeoning space innovation sector.
In addition to the space-focused discussions, Deputy Secretary Campbell and Mr. Finer will participate in a public dialogue at Rice University on the theme “U.S. Foreign Policy in a Moment of Transition.” They will discuss strategies for continuing the strong U.S.-India partnership under the incoming administration.
The visit underscores the growing cooperation between the two countries, with space exploration serving as a key pillar of their expanding bilateral relationship.
