The Thai government successfully co-hosted the 3rd Thailand-Spain Forum at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 5, 2025, fostering academic cooperation and strengthening diplomatic relations between the two nations. The event, which brought together high-ranking officials from both countries, as well as representatives from ASEAN and EU member nations, aimed to promote sustainability and address global challenges.
Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Luis Fonseca, Director-General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Spain, delivered opening remarks during the forum. The event was also attended by H.E. Mr. Felipe de la Morena Casado, Ambassador of Spain to Thailand, and members of the diplomatic corps from ASEAN and EU member countries.
The 3rd Thailand-Spain Forum focused on three interconnected topics: climate change, circular economy, and sustainable development. Academic discussions highlighted the impact of environmental change on human well-being and security, promoted circular economic models through innovative technologies, and underscored the importance of inclusiveness and grassroots participation in shaping a sustainable future.
In addition to these academic discussions, the forum featured exhibition booths showcasing expertise in waste management, upcycling, and recycling. Chak Daeng Temple transformed PET plastic bottles into monk robes under the “Transforming Waste into Merit Project,” while HORMESA (Thailand) Co., Ltd. showcased expertise in metal and aluminum recycling.
The successful event reflects Thailand’s commitment to strengthening its relationships with key partners like Spain, promoting sustainable development, and addressing global challenges. This strategic partnership highlights Thailand’s role as a key player in regional and international affairs, fostering cooperation and collaboration with nations worldwide.
