An 11-year-old dancer from Indonesia, Miyu, claimed first place in the highly competitive Kids-Allstyle category at the HipFest World Final 2024, held on December 14–15 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The international event brought together hundreds of young dancers from all over the globe, including from the United States, Russia, France, Japan, South Korea, and many more, highlighting Miyu’s exceptional talent and marking a significant milestone for Indonesia in the global urban dance community.
Despite the fierce competition from talented dancers worldwide, Miyu impressed judges and captivated the audience with her energetic and precise movements. Her victory not only underscores her individual prowess but also serves as a testament to the growing strength of Indonesia’s presence in the world of urban dance.
“This victory is a huge inspiration to the youth of Indonesia, encouraging them to continue honing their talents in dance and arts, particularly in breakdancing and hip-hop. It also serves as a reminder of Indonesia’s growing recognition and influence in the global dance arena,” said Agustaviano Sofjan, the Consul General of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City.
The competition was intense, with Miyu competing alongside a diverse group of young dancers from over 40 countries. “This is the fourth year Indonesia has participated in HipFest, and every year we have seen more talented dancers stepping up to represent our nation on this prestigious stage,” said Denny Fadli, the team leader and co-organizer of the HipFest qualifiers in Indonesia. “Our dancers have consistently made us proud, earning accolades in various international events, including gold medals at the 2019 SEA Games and the 2024 National Sports Week (PON).”
While the event was held outdoors and faced challenging weather conditions, the Indonesian team remained resilient and delivered standout performances. One participant, Farhan Casavaz, demonstrated remarkable perseverance after sustaining an injury from slipping on the wet floor, but he pressed on and secured a victory against the representative from Laos, a testament to the determination and spirit of the Indonesian team.
HipFest 2024, Southeast Asia’s largest hip-hop festival, was organized by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and other partners. This year’s event marked the ninth edition of the competition, which not only served as a stage for dancers but also acted as a cultural bridge, connecting various generations and nations through the universal language of dance.
The success of young talents like Miyu further strengthens Indonesia’s position as a rising force in the global hip-hop and breakdancing scene, offering a promising future for the nation’s creative industry and the next generation of dancers.
