India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to a secure maritime environment, fostering inclusive growth and global well-being. The seventh India-Japan Maritime Affairs Dialogue, held on April 2, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan, brought together high-level representatives from both nations.
The Indian delegation was led by Ms Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary (Disarmament & International Security Affairs), Ministry of External Affairs, while the Japanese delegation was headed by Mr. KASHIWABARA Yutaka, Deputy Director-General/Deputy Assistant Minister, Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau.
During the dialogue, both sides explored ways to sustain a secure maritime environment that promotes inclusive growth and global well-being. They reviewed ongoing cooperation initiatives in the maritime domain and discussed avenues for reinforcing international and regional mechanisms for comprehensive maritime security.
The two nations agreed to strengthen their shared efforts in areas such as Maritime domain awareness, countering Illicit Maritime Activities (IMA), capability development, and capacity building activities. These collaborations aim to enhance maritime safety, security, and cooperation.
The two countries also decided to hold the next round of the Dialogue at a mutually convenient date, further underscoring their commitment to regular engagement on maritime affairs.
This dialogue marks an important milestone in the India-Japan relationship, demonstrating the partners' shared interest in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
