Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Moldova Visits India to Bolster Bilateral Ties

H.E. Mihail Popsoi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, undertook an official visit to India from December 15–16, 2024, at the invitation of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.

A key highlight of the visit was the joint inauguration of the newly established Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in India-Moldova relations.

On December 15, 2024, both leaders held extensive bilateral talks in New Delhi, reviewing the entire spectrum of India-Moldova cooperation. Discussions encompassed political dialogue, trade and economic partnerships, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people ties. The Ministers also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their shared commitment to multilateral cooperation.

Three key agreements were signed during the visit:

  1. Declaration of Intent on a Migration and Mobility Partnership, aimed at enhancing the movement of youth, professionals, and skilled workers between the two countries.
  2. Moldova’s Framework Agreement to Join the International Solar Alliance (ISA), highlighting Moldova’s commitment to global renewable energy initiatives and India’s leadership in promoting solar energy.
  3. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (India) and the Diplomatic Institute (Moldova) to deepen collaboration in diplomatic training and capacity building.

India and Moldova enjoy warm and cordial relations, built on shared values of cooperation and mutual respect. Both nations work closely in multilateral fora to address global challenges and advance common interests. The vibrant Indian community in Moldova, particularly students, continues to serve as a cultural and people-to-people bridge, strengthening ties between the two countries.

The visit of H.E. Mihail Popsoi not only underscores Moldova’s growing engagement with India but also opens new avenues for bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, mobility, and capacity-building, solidifying a forward-looking partnership between the two nations.
