Cambodia’s Prime Minister to Strengthen Ties with South Korea

In a statement released on 13 May 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced that Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, will lead a high-level delegation to the Republic of Korea for an official visit from 15 to 18 May 2024.

The five-day visit marks an important milestone in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. During his stay, Samdech Thipadei will hold talks with His Excellency President Yoon Suk Yeol to discuss expanding partnerships and cooperation in key areas such as economic development and infrastructure. The two leaders will witness the signing of several documents covering these crucial sectors.

Samdech Thipadei's visit is seen as a significant step towards deepening Cambodia's engagement with South Korea, fostering greater economic opportunities for both nations. This move aligns with Cambodia's strategic foreign policy goals to strengthen regional ties and promote sustainable development.

The Prime Minister's delegation will also include His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister SUN Chanthol, First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia; His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; other senior government officials, and representatives from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce.

During his visit, Samdech Thipadei will have separate meetings with key figures such as His Excellency Han Duck-soo, the Prime Minister of South Korea, and His Excellency Kim Jin-pyo, Speaker of the National Assembly. He will also take part in a Cambodia-ROK business forum, where he will engage with Korean companies and Cambodian expatriates living in South Korea.

The visit is expected to be fruitful, with both countries poised to expand their cooperation on issues such as infrastructure development, trade, and investment. As a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Cambodia's engagement with South Korea is also seen as an important component of regional diplomacy.
