Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister to Strengthen ASEAN and Bilateral Relations

In a statement released on 22 Jul 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, SOK Chenda Sophea, will lead a delegation to participate in the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings in Vientiane from 24-27 Jul 2024.

The theme of the meetings is ‘ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience’, providing an opportunity for ministers to discuss ASEAN Community-building work, including innovative approaches to further enhance ASEAN cooperation to realize a more connected and resilient region for shared prosperity. The Deputy Prime Minister's visit aims to strengthen Cambodia's engagement with its regional partners and contribute to the growth of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

During his stay in Vientiane, Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea will attend separate meetings under Mekong cooperation frameworks with foreign ministers of Japan and the Republic of Korea, as well as a meeting with the Secretary of State of the United States of America. He is also expected to join other ASEAN foreign ministers and the Secretary-General of ASEAN for a courtesy call on Lao PDR's Prime Minister, Sonexay SIPHANDONE.

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea is anticipated to have bilateral talks with foreign counterparts to discuss mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas.
