In a significant move to bolster their long-standing relations, Cambodia will host the Fifth Meeting of the Cambodia-Indonesia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in Phnom Penh on 20-21 August 2024. The meeting will be co-chaired by His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Her Excellency Retno L.P. Marsudi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
On 20 Aug 2024, the Ministry announced that the JCBC will review significant progress since the Fourth Meeting in Jakarta, including the implementation of its Agreed Minutes, and set future directions to further advance the relations between the two countries and expand mutually beneficial cooperation. The two ministers will discuss in-depth the goal of fostering strong ties across all fields such as trade and investment, agriculture, education, health, labour, environment, transport, tourism, culture, and political-security cooperation.
The agenda also includes regional developments and international issues of common interest and concern. Notably, the Fifth JCBC coincides with the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Indonesia.
During her stay in Cambodia, Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This visit highlights the strong people-to-people ties between the two nations, which are an integral part of their bilateral cooperation.
