On 17 August 2024, Her Excellency Yentieng Puthirasmey, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, attended the Virtual Foreign Ministers’ Session of the 3 Voice of Global South Summit. The session was held under the theme “Charting a Unique Paradigm for Global South” and was chaired by His Excellency Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India.
During the session, Foreign Ministers from 16 countries in the Global South emphasized the need to reform multilateralism and implement the internationally agreed climate agenda. They stressed the importance of access to finance and technology essential for realizing the development of the Global South. The ministers also urged for enhanced south-south and triangular cooperation towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Global South must focus on economic strategies that address inequalities and provide opportunities for all, particularly women, youth, and marginalized communities. The use of science, technology, and innovation is essential in transforming our economy, improving the well-being of our people, and promoting sustainable development.
Environmental Stewardship
Sustainable development requires us to be stewards of our environment. Cambodia urged Global South countries to prioritize environmental sustainability and work more closely toward achieving full implementation of climate finance as committed by developed countries to address and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
“International cooperation is crucial in addressing shared economic, social, and environmental challenges,” said Her Excellency Yentieng Puthirasmey. “Cambodia calls for enhanced cooperation among Global South countries, fostering partnerships in technology, trade, and capacity building.” Together, we can amplify our voices on the global stage and advocate for a more equitable and just international order.
The 3 Voice of Global South Summit is an initiative that aims to bring together Foreign Ministers from countries in the Global South to discuss key issues affecting the region. The summit provides a platform for countries to share their experiences and best practices, as well as to identify areas where they can collaborate to achieve common development goals.
