Singapore Deepens Ties with ASEAN Countries in Historic Regional Forum

Singapore has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional partnerships and fostering a peaceful, prosperous, and connected Southeast Asia. At the 12th ASEAN Plus Three Finance Ministers’ Meeting (AMTFM) held on March 10-11 in Bangkok, Thailand, Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry, S Iswaran, led a high-level delegation to engage with finance ministers from ASEAN member states, China, Japan, and South Korea.

The AMTFM provided an opportunity for the group of nine countries to discuss key economic issues affecting the region, including the impact of global economic trends on Southeast Asia’s growth prospects. Singapore played a significant role in facilitating discussions on trade facilitation, investment promotion, and financial integration.

In addition to the AMTFM, Singapore has also been actively engaged with ASEAN member states through various mechanisms, such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations and the ASEAN+3 Financial Ministers’ Meeting. These efforts aim to promote regional economic cooperation and address common challenges facing the region.

Furthermore, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to strengthen its ties with key international organizations in the region, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the New Economic Window (NEW) for East Asia. These partnerships enable Singapore to contribute to regional development initiatives and stay informed about global economic trends.

As a responsible and engaged member of the international community, Singapore remains committed to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia and beyond. By fostering strong relationships with its neighbors and partners, Singapore seeks to ensure that the region continues to thrive as a hub for trade, investment, and innovation.

In recent years, Singapore has made significant strides in strengthening its economic ties with ASEAN countries. The country has also continued to promote regional integration through various initiatives, including the development of the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ) and the establishment of the Singapore-ASEAN Free Trade Area (SAFTA). These efforts aim to enhance trade facilitation, investment promotion, and financial integration in the region.

Overall, Singapore’s continued engagement with ASEAN countries reflects its commitment to regional stability, economic growth, and peace. As a leader in Southeast Asia, Singapore remains dedicated to promoting prosperity and connectivity for all member states.
