In a statement released on 10 Jul 2025, the Thai delegation to the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Seville, Spain, reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to supporting multilateralism and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Led by Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs H.E. Dr. Lalivan Karnchanachari, the delegation highlighted Thailand’s leading regional role in promoting innovative finance, addressing transnational crime, and reforming the international financial architecture.
Thailand plays a significant role in promoting development cooperation, particularly through Triangular cooperation, which involves collaboration between Thailand, developing countries, and other developed countries. The Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs emphasized Thailand’s experience in providing assistance through knowledge, training, and technical support to developing countries.
The Thai delegation also participated in multi-stakeholder round table sessions, with the Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs delivering two statements. These statements emphasized the importance of maintaining the multilateral trading system and utilizing technology to drive inclusive and sustainable development, as well as supporting approaches to improve the global financial architecture to be more inclusive and responsive to the needs of developing countries.
Furthermore, the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs shared Thailand’s experience in promoting development through South-South and Triangular cooperation. The Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs also joined others in endorsing the “Compromiso de Sevilla” (Seville Commitment), which reflects the international community’s political will to accelerate financing for development.
FfD4 is a crucial global platform to drive the sustainable development agenda, held every 6-10 years. This Conference had the goal of reviewing progress on implementing the 2015 Addis Ababa Action Agenda, which serves as the primary framework for development financing and accelerating the achievement of the SDGs by focusing on closing the financing gap for developing countries, promoting international cooperation, increasing access to funding, and utilizing innovative finance, science, technology, and trade for development.
The conference provided a valuable opportunity for Thailand’s representatives to engage with high-level representatives from around the world, including the Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs and the head of the delegation from the International Olympic Committee. Bilateral discussions were held on various dimensions of development, allowing for the exchange of perspectives and ideas.
Thailand’s participation in FfD4 underscores its commitment to addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development. The country’s role in regional and international affairs highlights its importance as a key player in shaping the future of global finance and development.
In conclusion, Thailand’s leadership at FfD4 demonstrates its dedication to supporting multilateralism and achieving the SDGs through innovative finance and cooperation. As a key player in regional and international affairs, Thailand will continue to play a crucial role in driving sustainable development globally.
