The Government of India has launched Operation Sindhu, a concerted effort to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran amid the deteriorating situation in the region. The operation, which began on June 17, 2025, aimed to provide safe passage for hundreds of Indians trapped in northern Iran.
As part of the initial stages of Operation Sindhu, the Indian Embassy successfully evacuated 110 Indian students from northern Iran and transported them to Armenia. The students then traveled to Yerevan, the Armenian capital, under the supervision of the Indian Missions in Iran and Armenia before departing on a special flight for New Delhi. Their arrival is expected early on June 19, 2025.
The Government of India expresses gratitude to the Governments of Iran and Armenia for facilitating the evacuation process. The operation marks an extension of India's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its nationals abroad.
