Prime Minister Modi Addresses G7 Outreach Session on Energy Security and Global Challenges

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in the Outreach Session of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, on June 17, 2025. The session focused on "Energy Security: Diversification, Technology, and Infrastructure to Ensure Access and Affordability in a Changing World."

Mr. Modi extended his gratitude to Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Mark Carney of Canada for inviting him to address the session. He also congratulated the G7 on marking 50 years of its journey. The Prime Minister highlighted that energy security is one of the leading challenges facing future generations.

India's approach to energy security is centered around four key principles: availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability. Mr. Modi noted that India has successfully met its Paris commitments ahead of schedule and is committed to a sustainable and green future. He emphasized several global initiatives undertaken by India, including the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance, Mission LiFE, and One Sun- One World- One Grid.

Mr. Modi expressed concern over the impact of uncertainty and conflicts in various parts of the world on countries in the Global South. He emphasized the importance of understanding the priorities and concerns of the Global South for a sustainable future. The Prime Minister also called upon countries to strengthen the global fight against terrorism, stressing that there should be no double standards in dealing with terrorism.

Mr. Modi posed pressing questions for the international community: "Will countries understand the grave threat posed by terrorism only when they become a target? How can perpetrators of terror and its victims be equated? Will global institutions be mute spectators to terrorism?" He also highlighted the need for closer cooperation among countries to realize a sustainable future, emphasizing that people and planet must be kept at the center of progress.

The Prime Minister's address emphasized India's human-centric approach to promoting technology, stressing that any technology must bring value to the lives of common people. He suggested addressing AI-related global governance issues as key to tackling concerns about AI and promoting innovation in the field. The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of secured and resilient supply chains of critical minerals in an age where AI is prevalent.

Addressing the session, Mr. Modi called for a technology-led world that prioritizes human development and sustainability. He emphasized the need for cooperation among countries to achieve a sustainable future, with people and planet at its center.
