The United States warmly welcomes Israel’s assumption of the presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) for the 2025 term, reaffirming the global commitment to Holocaust education, commemoration, and the fight against antisemitism. The U.S. also extends its gratitude to the United Kingdom for its successful leadership of the IHRA over the past year.
Strengthening Global Efforts to Combat Holocaust Distortion
As a founding member of the IHRA, the United States remains steadfast in its mission to preserve historical truth and combat Holocaust denial and distortion. The theme of Israel’s presidency, “The Crossroads of Generations,” underscores the urgency of this task as the number of Holocaust survivors continues to decline.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reflecting on his visit to Yad Vashem just two weeks ago, emphasized the moral imperative to protect Holocaust memory. He described the Holocaust as a stark reminder of human depravity, warning that rising antisemitism threatens to undermine lessons from history.
“Eighty years after the end of World War II, we are witnessing a troubling rise in Holocaust distortion and antisemitic rhetoric. From violent attacks on Jewish communities to the defacement of Holocaust memorials and dangerous misinformation on university campuses and international forums, the fight against antisemitism is more critical than ever,” said Secretary Rubio.
U.S. Commitment to Holocaust Education and Countering Antisemitism
Under the Trump Administration, the United States is taking decisive action to combat antisemitism both domestically and globally. This includes promoting the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism, a legally non-binding yet powerful tool to identify and counter antisemitic rhetoric and actions. The U.S. is further reinforcing this framework through the U.S.-led Global Guidelines for Countering Antisemitism, ensuring a unified, international response to Holocaust denial and distortion.
The United States will actively support Israel’s IHRA presidency, working closely to defend Holocaust memory, counter misinformation, and strengthen educational initiatives that ensure future generations learn the truth. By leading by example, America remains committed to the principle of “Never Again”, honoring the memory of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and ensuring that history is never rewritten or forgotten.
