The United States has expressed its deepest condolences to those affected by the recent earthquake in Vanuatu. In a statement issued by the Department of State, the U.S. government reaffirmed its commitment to providing assistance and working closely with Australia, New Zealand, and other regional partners to support relief efforts.
The earthquake has rendered the building housing the U.S. Embassy Port Vila chancery unfit for operations. The U.S. Department of State is actively assessing alternative options for continuing diplomatic work in Vanuatu during this challenging time.
All U.S. Embassy staff, as well as Peace Corps staff and volunteers, have been confirmed safe and accounted for. The Department of State is working to determine whether any U.S. citizens have been impacted by the disaster and is prepared to offer consular support as necessary.
