U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a call with his Mexican counterpart, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, to address pressing issues affecting the U.S. automobile industry and strengthen security coordination between the two nations.
According to a spokesperson for the Office of the Spokesperson, the conversation centered on actions to protect the U.S. automobile industry, as well as strengthening security collaboration and border security measures. The discussion focused on dismantling cartels, stopping the flow of illicit drugs, firearms, and illegal aliens across the shared border.
The Secretary welcomed Mexico's demonstrated commitment to achieving results in these efforts, including the deployment of 10,000 National Guard troops along the U.S.-Mexico border. This initiative has led to significant fentanyl and precursor chemicals seizures, as well as the transfer of 29 high-value targets, including major cartel figures, to U.S. custody.
Furthermore, Mexico's cooperation on illegal immigration was acknowledged, with the country continuing to receive deportation flights and repatriate illegal aliens to their home countries. The Secretary expressed gratitude for these efforts, which have contributed to a decrease in unauthorized immigration.
The conversation between Rubio and de la Fuente demonstrated the shared commitment of both nations to addressing pressing issues affecting regional security and cooperation.
