Thailand Leads OSCE Delegation at Helsinki+50 Conference

In a significant show of diplomatic prowess, the Thai delegation led by Director-General Krongkanit Rakcharoen made headlines at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s (OSCE) Helsinki+50 Conference in Helsinki, Finland, on July 31-August 1, 2025. The conference brought together key stakeholders to discuss pressing security issues, with Thailand playing a vital role in fostering regional cooperation.

During the small group discussions, Director-General Rakcharoen emphasized the OSCE’s critical role in promoting preventive diplomacy and constructive dialogue to address conflicts and crises. She also underscored Thailand’s readiness to strengthen its security partnership with ASEAN and the OSCE through joint activities, workshops, training, and expert exchanges focused on combatting online scams, cyber security, anti-human trafficking, border management, and environmental security.

At the national statement session, Director-General Rakcharoen reaffirmed Thailand’s stance on the ongoing tensions along its border with Cambodia. She reiterated Thailand’s commitment to international law, the UN Charter, and the Helsinki principles, while stressing that the Thai armed forces had taken proportionate measures in self-defence in response to unprovoked attacks by Cambodia. The Director-General also emphasized Thailand’s continued support for the ceasefire agreement and its willingness to utilize bilateral mechanisms to resolve the issue.

Thailand further demonstrated its commitment to OSCE values by making a significant financial contribution to the Helsinki+50 Fund, solidifying its position as a steadfast partner in promoting regional security and stability. During bilateral meetings with Finnish Ambassador to the OSCE, Luxembourg’s Political Director, and Netherlands’ Deputy Director-General for Political Affairs, Director-General Rakcharoen discussed preparations for the 2026 OSCE Asian Conference and explored opportunities for enhancing cooperation on combating online scams.

Thailand’s active participation in the Helsinki+50 Conference underscores its dedication to strengthening regional security partnerships and promoting constructive dialogue. As a key player in ASEAN, Thailand continues to play a pivotal role in fostering cooperation between ASEAN and the OSCE, with significant implications for regional stability and security.

In conclusion, Thailand’s leadership at the Helsinki+50 Conference showcases its commitment to regional security, diplomacy, and the promotion of peaceful solutions to conflicts. As the sole OSCE Partner for Co-operation from ASEAN, Thailand will continue to be a vital partner in shaping the OSCE’s future directions and advancing regional cooperation on critical issues affecting Southeast Asia and beyond.
