Bangkok, August 6, 2025 – During his recent visit to Thailand from August 4-6, 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held bilateral discussions with key counterparts in New Zealand, marking a significant step forward in strengthening ties between the two nations.
The talks focused on expanding trade and investment cooperation, building on the 20th anniversary of the Thailand-New Zealand Closer Economic Partnership (TNZCEP). Both sides agreed to work towards tripling the value of bilateral trade over the next 20 years, recognizing the crucial role that TNZCEP plays in facilitating economic growth.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the potential for cooperation in areas where New Zealand has special expertise, including cooperatives and agricultural technology transition. This includes boosting agricultural productivity, advancing precision farming, and applying post-harvest processing technologies to enhance food security.
In addition to trade and investment cooperation, the discussions touched on education and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides agreed to promote certificate training programmes covering agricultural technology, public administration, and digital-era trade, as well as organizing business delegations to strengthen networking between the two countries.
The New Zealand side expressed readiness to welcome a Thai business delegation to explore and expand opportunities for bilateral trade and investment cooperation. These initiatives are expected to not only foster economic growth but also promote cultural exchange and understanding between the two nations.
Through this significant development, Thailand and New Zealand reaffirm their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership, promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
The 20-year "5S" Foreign Affairs Masterplan, announced by the Council of Ministers last year, will undoubtedly benefit from these strengthened ties, driving economic growth, and increasing cooperation on key issues facing the region.
This landmark agreement underscores the strong foundation for future collaboration between Thailand and New Zealand, paving the way for a brighter future for both nations.
