Indonesia Takes Leadership on Sustainable Development Goals, Sets Example for Global Community

New York, USA – At a high-profile forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York yesterday, Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the country’s Vice Minister of National Development Planning, H.E. Febrian A. Ruddyard, presenting its fourth Voluntary National Review (VNR) to a global audience.

Addressing the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2025, Ruddyard emphasized Indonesia’s determination to lead by example in its efforts to meet its SDG targets, with a notable 61% of its 233 SDG indicators currently on track to reach their 2030 goals – surpassing the global average.

To sustain this progress, Ruddyard outlined four key strategies: integrating the SDGs into national development planning, enhancing local ownership and leadership, improving data for informed decision-making, and promoting transparency and accountability as a hallmark of effective governance.

Chairman of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation, H.E. Mardani Ali Sera, highlighted Indonesia’s Parliament’s vital role in advancing the SDGs, emphasizing active involvement in VNR formulation processes, legislative action, budget approval, oversight, and promoting a whole-of-society approach that engages all stakeholders.

By sharing its achievements and strategies with the international community, Indonesia aims to inspire others to follow suit and accelerate progress toward the 2030 SDG targets. The country’s fourth VNR Report is now available for download at this link.
