Indian Prime Minister’s Visit to BIMSTEC Countries Seeks to Strengthen Regional Collaboration

India's Prime Minister will embark on an official visit to Thailand and Sri Lanka, marking the beginning of a two-day trip that aims to foster stronger regional ties.

The Prime Minister's departure statement highlights the significance of the Bay of Bengal region in India, citing its geographical location at the heart of BIMSTEC. The organization has emerged as a key platform for promoting regional development, connectivity, and economic progress over the past decade. With the common goal of strengthening collaboration between member nations in mind, the Prime Minister looks forward to productive engagements with leaders from BIMSTEC countries.

During his visit to Thailand, scheduled to begin on April 3, 2025, the Prime Minister will meet with Thai leadership, including Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The meeting is expected to focus on elevating India's age-old historical ties, built on shared cultural, philosophical, and spiritual foundations.

The visit to Thailand will be followed by a two-day trip to Sri Lanka from April 4-6, 2025. This follows the successful visit of Sri Lankan President Disanayaka to India in December last year. The Prime Minister's Sri Lankan leg is aimed at reviewing progress made on the joint vision of "Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future" and providing guidance to realize shared objectives.

The visits are designed to build upon past successes and strengthen regional relationships, ultimately benefiting the people of both countries and the wider Bay of Bengal region.
