At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Marcos will arrive in New Delhi on August 4 and will be accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, along with a high-level delegation comprising several Cabinet Ministers, dignitaries, and senior officials. Business representatives from both countries will also join the visit. The Philippine leader will then travel to Bengaluru before departing for the Philippines on August 8.

This state visit is a historic occasion, as it will be President Marcos' first visit to India since taking office in May 2022. During his stay, Prime Minister Modi and President Marcos are scheduled to hold bilateral discussions on August 5, which will focus on strengthening cooperation in key areas such as trade and investment, defense and security, maritime cooperation, agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and digital technologies.

The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of India-Philippines diplomatic relations, which was established in November 1949. The two nations have since developed a strong partnership across various sectors, including through India's Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

India's relations with the Philippines are an integral part of its "Act East" policy, Vision MAHASAGAR, and its vision for the Indo-Pacific region. This state visit offers a unique opportunity for both leaders to set the tone for future bilateral cooperation and engage on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The two countries have a long-standing commitment to maritime cooperation, as reflected in their agreements to enhance cooperation in areas such as search and rescue operations, marine conservation, and maritime trade. India and the Philippines are also signatories to the South China Sea Code of Conduct, which aims to promote peace and stability in the region.

As a key player in the Indo-Pacific region, India's engagement with the Philippines is seen as crucial for promoting regional security, prosperity, and development. This state visit marks an important step forward in strengthening ties between the two nations and promoting mutual cooperation on key global issues.

Conclusion:

The historic state visit of Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to India is a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. With this visit, both nations will have the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to a strong partnership and cooperate on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
