India Successfully Evacuates Citizens from Syria Amid Tensions

In a swift response to escalating tensions in Syria, the Government of India successfully evacuated 75 Indian nationals, ensuring their safety and well-being. Among those evacuated were 44 pilgrims from Jammu & Kashmir, stranded in Saida Zainab, a significant religious site in the region.

The evacuees safely crossed into neighboring Lebanon and are scheduled to return to India via commercial flights. This operation was jointly coordinated by the Indian embassies in Damascus and Beirut, reflecting meticulous planning and efficient execution.

“Our decision to initiate the evacuation stemmed from a comprehensive assessment of the security situation and specific requests from Indian nationals,” a government spokesperson stated.

Emphasizing its commitment to the safety of Indians abroad, the Ministry of External Affairs urged citizens remaining in Syria to stay connected with the Indian Embassy in Damascus. For assistance or updates, nationals can reach the embassy via its emergency helpline at +963 993385973 (available on WhatsApp) or email at hoc.damascus@mea.gov.in.

The government reaffirmed its vigilance, pledging to closely monitor developments in Syria and take necessary actions to safeguard Indian nationals.
