India launched Operation Brahma on April 1, 2025, in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025. The operation aims to provide necessary support, including Search and Rescue (SAR), humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and medical assistance to the affected population.
So far, six aircraft and five Indian Naval ships have delivered over 625 metric tonnes of Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief material to Myanmar. The first tranche of aid, which included essential supplies such as tents, blankets, medicines, and food, was delivered using a C-130J aircraft on March 29, 2025. Subsequent tranches carried additional relief materials, including search and rescue specialists, equipment, and medical supplies.
On March 30, 2025, two Indian Air Force (IAF) C-17 aircraft transported an 118-member Indian Army Field Hospital Team with over 60 tons of supplies, rapidly deployable surgical and medical shelters, water sanitation and hygiene services, and women and child care services. The 200-bedded field hospital in Mandalay is now operational, treating patients and performing surgeries.
Indian Naval ships Satpura and Savitri sailed for Yangon on March 29, 2025, carrying 40 tonnes of Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief material, which were handed over to the Chief Minister of Yangon on April 1, 2025. Additionally, IAF C-130J aircraft have been dispatched to deliver critical supplies, including vital aid such as tents, gensets, drinking water, food, and emergency medicines.
Furthermore, Indian Naval Ship Gharial departed from Visakhapatnam Port on April 1, 2025, bound for Yangon, carrying 442 metric tonnes of food aid, including rice, cooking oil, biscuits, and instant noodles. These supplies aim to meet the immediate food needs of the affected population in Myanmar.
