India and UK Strengthen Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Through High-Level Dialogue

The 17th India-UK Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) and the 1st Strategic Exports and Technology Cooperation Dialogue were held in New Delhi on June 3, 2025. The Indian delegation was led by Shri Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, while the UK side was headed by Sir Oliver Robbins, Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

This high-level meeting provided an opportunity for both countries to review and discuss their bilateral relations, as they are Comprehensive Strategic Partners. The FOC concluded with a welcome for the recent conclusion of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement and Double Contribution Convention. Discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, defense & security, counter-terrorism, technology, science, innovation, green energy, climate, health, education, and people-to-people relations.

The Foreign Secretary conveyed India's appreciation for the UK government's expression of solidarity and support to India in its fight against terrorism. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including developments in Russia-Ukraine, Indo-Pacific, and West Asia.

Both countries agreed to maintain regular exchanges at political and senior official levels, with plans to hold the next FOC in London at a mutually convenient time in 2026. This strategic partnership is essential for promoting peace, security, and prosperity in the region and beyond.

The meeting marked an important milestone in the India-UK relationship, as both nations continue to work together to address global challenges and seize opportunities for mutual growth.
