Cambodian Leader Closes China Visit with Fruitful Outcomes

In a statement released on 06 Dec 2024, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party and President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, concluded his official and goodwill visit to the People’s Republic of China, from 2 to 4 December 2024. The visit yielded fruitful outcomes, marking a significant milestone in the development of bilateral ties between the two nations.

During his stay in Beijing, Samdech Techo Hun Sen had separate meetings with His Excellency Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President of the People’s Republic of China. The Chinese leaders also included His Excellency Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and His Excellency Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.

The Cambodian leader expressed his admiration for China’s remarkable progress in various fields as the country celebrates its 75th founding anniversary this year. Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the Chinese leaders shared great satisfaction with the steady advancement of the Cambodia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation. They emphasized the importance of fostering mutual political trust between Cambodia and China through maintaining frequent high-level exchanges between the ruling parties, governments, and legislative bodies of the two countries.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering adherence to the One China Policy and thanked the Chinese leaders for supporting the country’s development path that is suitable for its national context. The Cambodian leader also touched on expediting the realization of the “Industrial and Technological Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor” in Cambodia. He agreed with the Chinese leaders to expand cooperation in education, increase tourism, cultural, and youth exchanges.

On defense and security, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the Chinese leaders highlighted the necessity of strengthening cooperation against online scams, human trafficking, and other transnational crimes, aimed at ensuring national harmony and security for both nations. They expressed a shared commitment to enhance cooperation under regional and international frameworks to safeguard the core interests of both countries and promote multilateral cooperation for peace, security, stability, and prosperity within the region and the world.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen extended an invitation to the Chinese leaders to visit Cambodia in the near future, expressing his hope to welcome each of them in Phnom Penh. Prior to this visit, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, concluded his visit in Beijing from 28 November to 01 December 2024. During his stay, he had separate meetings with His Excellency Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China and His Excellency Minister Liu Jianchao, Head of the CPC’s International Department.

The successful visit underscores Cambodia’s commitment to strengthening its ties with China, a key player in regional and international affairs. The agreement reached during Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s visit is expected to have a lasting impact on bilateral cooperation, promoting peace, stability, and prosperity for both nations and their respective communities.
