On 30 January 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia hosted a signing ceremony for a Letter of Understanding on the implementation of the United Nations World Food Programme's (WFP) Country Strategic Plan 2024-2028. The event marked a significant milestone in the country's efforts to improve food and nutrition security for vulnerable populations, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Cambodia's National Strategic Development Plan.
Her Excellency Yentieng Puthirasmey, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, represented the Royal Government of Cambodia in the signing ceremony. On behalf of WFP, Ms. Clair Conan, Representative of the United Nations World Food Programme in Cambodia, also attended the event. The two parties co-signed the Letter of Understanding, formalizing their commitment to working together towards the achievement of the CSP.
The CSP is a comprehensive plan that aims to promote healthy diets and adapt to climate change through technical assistance, policy advice, social protection, food systems, and disaster management. With a total budget of USD 63,378,500 (sixty-three million three hundred seventy-eight thousand and five hundred US dollars), the plan seeks to enhance national efforts in addressing these pressing issues.
For over 40 years, WFP has been supporting the Royal Government of Cambodia's initiatives to improve food and nutrition security for the most vulnerable populations. This partnership is a testament to the organization's dedication to contributing to the achievement of Cambodia's socio-economic development goals.
The CSP is aligned with the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase I and the National Strategic Development Plan of Cambodia, ensuring that national efforts are well-integrated into the country's overall development agenda.
