In a statement released on 18 November 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia announced the successful outcomes of bilateral consultations between the two nations. The meeting, held in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic on 14 November 2024, was co-chaired by His Excellency SOM Visal, Under Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and His Excellency Aibek Moldogaziev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The two sides expressed their satisfaction over their longstanding relationship, which they look forward to commemorating with meaningful joint activities on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries in 2025. They briefed each other on the current political and socio-economic development and goals of their respective countries, reviewing the progress of bilateral relations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening friendly ties for the mutual interest of the two peoples, with a focus on enhancing inter-parliamentary engagements and promoting cooperation in various areas such as education, culture, health, agriculture, and environment. They also emphasized the importance of regular high-level visits and bilateral interactions to deepen cooperation and explore ways to generate mutual benefits.
On economic relations, Cambodia and Kyrgyzstan acknowledged that there is still room for improvement and encouraged institutions concerned to work together to increase bilateral trade, investment, and tourism exchanges. The private sector was highlighted as a key player in economic development, with both sides calling for close collaboration between the chambers of commerce of the two countries to fully exploit economic potentials and business opportunities.
The two nations also agreed to promote cooperation in the tourism sector, urging relevant institutions to organize joint promotional activities to increase tourism exchange. While expressing their intent to promote cooperation in other areas of mutual interests, they encouraged their respective institutions to resume discussions on establishing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on these fields.
Apart from bilateral relations, Cambodia and Kyrgyzstan committed to strengthening international cooperation and enhancing mutual support in various regional and international fora, including the United Nations, Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), and ASEAN. They exchanged views extensively on regional and international issues of common concerns.
During the visit, His Excellency SOM Visal also paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Kulubaev Zheenbek, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, during which both sides discussed ways to enhance friendly ties and promote fruitful cooperation between the two countries in bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
The Cambodian delegation expressed sincere appreciation to the Kyrgyz side for the warm hospitality extended during their stay in Bishkek and agreed to hold the next round of consultations in 2026 in Cambodia on a mutually convenient date.
In conclusion, the successful outcomes of the bilateral consultations between Cambodia and Kyrgyzstan mark an important milestone in strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations. As they commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations in 2025, both sides are committed to promoting cooperation and friendship, contributing to peace, security, harmony, and sustainable development in the region.
