Strengthening Cultural Ties: Indonesian Embassy Boosts Educational Opportunities for Chilean Students

In a significant move to promote cultural diplomacy and educational exchange, the Embassy of Indonesia in Santiago, Chile, recently participated in the Jornada Global ASEAN 2025 event at the Universidad de O’Higgins in Rancagua. The three-day gathering brought together representatives from various ASEAN countries based in Santiago, showcasing exhibitions on education, culture, and tourism.

The event was officially inaugurated by Ambassador of Thailand to Chile, Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, who serves as President of the ASEAN Community Santiago for the June-December 2025 term. This occasion also provided an opportunity for the Indonesian Embassy to introduce study opportunities in Indonesia to Chilean students, including the Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (KNB) and the Darmasiswa Scholarship.

The KNB scholarship program aims to provide financial assistance to undergraduate and postgraduate students from developing countries, including Chile, to pursue their studies in Indonesia. The Darmasiswa Scholarship, on the other hand, is a one-year non-degree program focused on Indonesian language, arts, and culture.

In addition to promoting educational opportunities, the Indonesian Embassy showcased the richness of Indonesian traditional arts through displays of Wayang Kulit, Wayang Golek, Angklung, and traditional costumes from various regions. Students from Universidad de O’Higgins were also invited to participate in cultural classes regularly organized by the Embassy, including traditional dance classes, Indonesian language courses, and Gamelan workshops.

The participation of the Indonesian Embassy in the Jornada Global ASEAN 2025 event not only promoted Indonesian culture and educational programs but also strengthened long-term partnerships between the Embassy and the Universidad de O’Higgins. This move further enhances Chile’s ties with ASEAN countries in the fields of education and culture.

The event highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy in fostering people-to-people exchanges and promoting mutual understanding between nations. As a key player in Southeast Asia, Indonesia continues to strengthen its relationships with other countries, including Chile, through various initiatives like educational exchange programs and cultural events.

Conclusion:
The Indonesian Embassy’s participation in the Jornada Global ASEAN 2025 event demonstrates the country’s commitment to promoting cultural diplomacy and educational exchange. By introducing study opportunities for Chilean students and showcasing Indonesian traditional arts, the Embassy has strengthened long-term partnerships with Universidad de O’Higgins and enhanced Chile’s ties with ASEAN countries in education and culture.
